A Refreshingly New Idea in

Energy Recovery Ventilators

• Sustainable

• Reliable

• Energy efficient

    BPE®  engineers and manufactures one of the world’s most efficient air to air energy recovery modules to save energy and improve IEQ (indoor environmental quality) and IAQ (indoor air quality).

    We listen to our clients and work with architects, engineers and building owners to provide components or complete turnkey systems with energy recovery modules, duct work, high efficiency fans and controls to provide excellence in IEQ and EERs  (energy efficiency ratings) that can exceed 126.1!  This has provided the high efficiency energy recovery systems that makes net zero buildings possible, that our clients find very comfortable and inexpensive to own and operate!

As of April 2013, BPE has provided dollar and energy savings  of

$16,602,139.25 or  98,477,337.08 kwh in electricity and saved

$17,070,358.77 or 12,063,738.43 therms of natural gas.

This has reduced pollution and greenhouse gases in the following amounts;

         CO2 (lbs) emissions by 632,693,443.65 pounds

         SOx (lbs) emissions by 1,346,059.75 pounds

         NOx (lbs) emissions by  1,565,365.88 pounds

Total Pollution Reduction in Cars Removed from the Road =  55,257.07 Car Years*

* Equivalent number of passenger cars taken off the road in 1 year, based on estimated average12,500 miles traveled per year, releasing an estimated 11,450 pounds of CO2 per year as defined by the EPA. BPE ERV's not only saves you money and makes peoples thermal comfort better, we can together also save the environment in which we all live and breathe!

    By combining patented energy recovery equipment with other existing energy efficient technology we can provide significant energy savings and extremely attractive pay backs and returns on investment. We would like to discuss in more detail and provide you with the potential energy savings and incentives that would be available by installing energy recovery ventilators manufactured by Building Performance Equipment.

    BPE can provide a free site audit to evaluate potential saving and application for a state of the air energy recovery system.  Call us to discuss your project and see how we can help you save energy!

BPE has received national recognition, awards and Energy Star Success Write-ups!

BPE® provides best in class high performance energy recovery systems for recovery waste cooling and heating system from existing building or new building exhaust air ventilation systems. 20 years ago our founder an Architect and Engineer was working as a performance contractor putting together large capital projects for industrial and high intensity energy use facilities and though air to air energy recovery was a good idea, but could not find reliable or really efficient energy recovery options. Having worked with the world’s largest chemical company in central research, he had an idea to use fluid modeling, state of the art engineering and a strong polymer chemistry background to engineer a very high efficiency energy recovery system with very little back pressure. This results in very high ratios of energy recovered for a watt of power, also known as EER. A general comparison of relative efficiencies is as follows;

Window Air Conditioning Unit                         EER = 8 to 10

Standard ERV                                                 EER = 14

Geothermal HVAC – High Efficiency              EER = 21

BPE® direct counter flow ERV                        EER = 120

BPE® can be 10 times as efficient as standard options and can help a building owner, Architect or Engineer win national awards, just like our founder has!

BPE® provides packaged systems of BPE® ERM (energy recovery modules), High Efficiency Inline Fans and state of the art CO2 controllers with 10 year self-calibration. Our cut sheets have the performance and pressure curves along with a selection of fans. By choosing a fan and energy module that is right for your application and right sizing ductwork for very low pressure drops you can engineer a world class energy recovery system, and possibly win a national award or two! See internal flow diagram of BPE® unit below;

The thermal image above shows a BPE®-XE-MIR-200 with 97.8 °F outdoor air entering the fresh air intake on the upper left of the BPE® energy recovery module and exiting at 78.3 °F on the upper right.  This fresh air drops 19.5 °F on a single pass and is more like mechanical cooling! It can be noted the space is air conditioned and you can only recover energy if the space is heating or cooled.

The exhaust air temperature starts out at 74.3 °F, from the air conditioned room. By having the hot 97.8 °F, pre-tempered to within 4 °F of room temperature (note: in order to achieve this type of efficiency the correct flow range, typically 50% of nominal rating and a balanced laminar flow needs to be engineered), we find several advantages, as follows;

  • Simple install, no inline heating and cooling needed for most applications
  • Greater energy savings
  • Better thermal comfort, no cold breezes
  • Easier temperature control
  • Less maintenance on existing equipment
  • Improved IEQ
  • Improved IAQ
